Scope of Work

The project involved the safe removal of asbestos sheeting and the restoration of deteriorating structural elements.

Rotten timbers were carefully removed and replaced, ensuring the building’s structural integrity.

The roof was upgraded with made-to-measure anti-condensation castellated roof sheets, providing improved durability and a safer environment.

Additionally, a rotten timber lintel was replaced with a reclaimed stone lintel, sourced to maintain the building’s traditional aesthetic. The surrounding stonework was meticulously rebuilt, and bespoke stable doors were crafted and installed, completing the restoration with attention to both functionality and visual appeal.

The Challenge

One of the biggest challenges on this job was dealing with the damaged concrete roof sheets that contained asbestos. The material was breaking apart, which made it more dangerous, so it had to be removed very carefully and by the book to keep everyone safe—both the team and anyone using the building in future.

The farm’s out-of-the-way location made things trickier too, with deliveries and access needing extra planning. On top of that, Whitby’s freezing, changeable weather didn’t make life any easier, so we had to work around that to keep things moving.

Safety was at the heart of everything we did. Everyone on site was fully trained in handling asbestos, and we followed all the proper safety rules from start to finish.

The Solution

Before we got started, we carried out a full site survey and risk assessment to spot any hazards and make sure everything was properly managed from day one.

When it came to removing the asbestos, we took down the sheets carefully and stored them straight into a dedicated skip on-site. We sorted that with a trusted local waste company, which meant we didn’t have to move the hazardous material off-site until final disposal, making things both safer and smoother.

As the asbestos was in bonded cement sheets, we didn’t need air monitoring, and the work was classed as non-licensed. Still, we stuck to all the right rules and best practices to get the job done right.

Our team followed strict safety measures the whole way through. Everyone wore the proper PPE and knew exactly what was needed to stay safe while handling the materials.

By staying on top of safety and working to the right standards, we got the job done properly—efficiently, safely, and with no corners cut.

The Results

The job was wrapped up successfully, with all asbestos safely removed and replaced. The building is now solid, smart-looking, and ready for Mulgrave Estates to rent out with confidence.

The stables have been fitted with anti-condensation roof sheets, creating a dry, safe space for the animals—much better for their comfort and overall wellbeing.

We also kept things environmentally sound by using an on-site asbestos skip, cutting down on the need to move hazardous waste around unnecessarily. Our team handled all the logistics, including working closely with the skip provider, to keep everything running smoothly.

Best of all, the client was really pleased with the result. Mulgrave Estates now has a safer, cleaner, and more usable property that fits their needs for both rental and agricultural use.

Thanks to skilled workmanship, proper safety practices, and efficient project planning, this was a job done right, from start to finish.
