Preserving Heritage with a Traditional Roof Restoration in East Barnby

The project involved the complete restoration and preservation of a deteriorating roof. The work began with the removal of rotten timbers and old tiles to prepare for a full structural upgrade.

New treated timbers and breathable felt were then supplied and installed to ensure long-term durability and improved ventilation.

To maintain the traditional aesthetic while enhancing performance, new clay tiles were carefully fitted, along with new leadwork to reinforce waterproofing and structural integrity.

Additionally, ridge tiles were re-bedded, and the chimney stacks were ground out and repointed to restore their strength.

Where required, new chimney pots were supplied and installed, completing the full restoration with attention to both functionality and visual appeal.

One of the primary challenges of this project was managing the site constraints. The work required scaffolding to be erected, which we organised in close coordination with the site manager at Mulgrave Estates. This ensured minimal disruption and a seamless workflow throughout the project.

Health and safety were also key considerations. A thorough site survey was conducted before work commenced, and all staff were trained in best practices for moving and handling materials.

Comprehensive risk assessments were completed and submitted to the estate management to ensure compliance with all safety regulations.

To address the challenges of this project, a detailed and structured approach was implemented. The necessary scaffolding was professionally installed, providing safe and efficient access to all areas of the roof.

Regular communication with the site manager ensured that all logistics were handled smoothly, avoiding any unnecessary delays.

The restoration itself was carried out by skilled professionals with extensive experience in traditional roofing techniques.

By using modern, high-quality materials, we were able to preserve the roof’s historical character while significantly improving its durability and weather resistance.
